4 is the 21 of Toddlers

heresmytheory:

Ever notice how proud four-year-olds are of their age? They announce it to everyone they meet and hold up their four tiny little fingers with a proud look on their face.

I’m pretty sure it’s because this is the first age where kids are truly aware of what their age means. Their fourth birthday comes, their parents tell them “you’re four years old now” and they feel honored and proud.

They’re no longer three, they’re big kids now. They’re going to school soon, and they have no time for immature little three-year-olds anymore.

This whole thing reminds me of a great bit Bill Cosby did in his special “Bill Cosby: Himself” - here’s the clip I’m referring to.

I hope the next time you meet a four-year-old and they tell you how old they are, you think of this and laugh. Maybe ask them for their ID and offer them a drink.
